I found Lahti when I was looking for a Holstein horse. This black Istanbul daughter for sure was not an exterieur queen – her back was a bit too long and she stood pigeon-toed. But her walk was unreached. And she was a real pleasure to ride, very reliable under saddle.
Her sire Istanbul, a Flaneur offspring from the main stud family of Ich und Du, stood with famous Hörstein stud before he was sold to Great Britain at age 14. Istanbul's dam family was stamped by TBs like Fockenbach xx, Parsee xx, and Delphos xx, and he was described as "outstanding in frame and points with excellent conformation and very good ground covering movements".
Lathi's dam Liscia comes from a very small East Prussian family with chestnut Lissa, born in 1939, as a foundation mare. The name of the mare's breeder was lost in the confusion of war, but her pedigree reveals excellent genes: Löwenritt/Eichendorf/Löwe, thus consolidating her heritage by a 2/3 generation inbreeding to Löwe and a 3/3 generation inbreeding to Dampfross. Until she died in 1957, she gave birth to eight foals in the Bär barn in Langenbrombach within the Odenwald region. Among them was top-graded (1,2,2/1,2) mare Liesa by Perlenfischer, who later was sold to Columbia, and the show horses Linde by Herold, Luzifer II and Feisal (Smoky), both by Feuergeist - the latter was successfully shown in preliminary-level eventing classes.
Lissa's youngest daughter Linda by Feuergeist took over her dam's place in the barn of Adam Bär. Her sire Feuergeist was by legendary Arabian Fetysz ox out of a Hirtensang/Dampfross dam. Linda gave birth to twelve foals, among them preliminary-level show jumper Leopardo by Scipio and riding horse test winner Kobold XII by Kosmos. Daughter Lindenblüte by Kosmos was sold to another barn, among her crop are preliminary-level show jumper Ludwig by Gobelin, and three registered daughters for breeding. Linda's daughter Lajenka by Adonis xx, who herself was showed successfully in young horse contests, became the dam of preliminary-level dressage horse Lorbas by Tannenfels. Linda's daughter Lissa III by Gobelin became the dam of intermediate-level dressage horse Laurin by Hanseat and one broodmare. Linda's daughter Lindenblüte II by Adonis xx founded a small branch of this family highlighted by Lana Lee by Habicht/Sarafan, who was successful in advanced dressage (Inter I) and was choosen Elite mare of the Trakehner Association after giving birth to her second foal by Gribaldi.
In our barn Lahti foaled among others Lambada by Katapult, whose daughter Lady Jane by Sir Chamberlain was quite successful in regional eventing classes. Mated to Unkensee Lahti foaled Loreley (on the photo above as a foal).
