Calliope
When Calliope came into our barn, we had bought the dam of approved Carel Deak by Markus Deak xx. Calliope's dam Copelia II had been sold in foal to Arogno in 1989 to Jo Neal to Great Britain. The foal she gave birth there came back to Germany as a young horse and was sold during the Neumünster Hengstmarkt elite mare auction to Ariane Meisel (Hamburg). I bought her daughter Catalina from Ariane, and shortly after Catalina I also bought Calliope for my breed. Calliope was sired by breeding legend Arogno – the stamping sire of the 20th century, who had to put up with the reserve titels of his licensing and of Bundeschampionat, but proved to be the true winner in breeding. Bernd Eylers describes him: "Arogno was a very typey, elegant stallion with an eye-catching face and a harmonic body. He was attested excellent gaits and fascinating temperament and character ... it's hard to imagine Trakehner breed of the past decades without Arogno ... despite his chances in breeding were limited in the beginning, he sired 13 approved stallions and a number of top mares."
